APW - Elgin, Convertible model, 21J, Grade 91, three finger bridge mvt, 16S, very heavy 14K gold NGW&S OF recase, gold cuvette, white glass enamel DS canister-style (friction fit snap-on) dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, raised gold jewel settings, nickel damascene, s#942075. Gross weight of assembled watch 87.8 dwt (136.5 g). An impressive example of this scarce to rare top grade watch, we believe total production of Elgin's Grade 91 was approximately 350 made as all examples we have observed have fallen neatly within only the 942001 to 942350 portion of the larger serial number block (942001 to 943000) that was reserved for this grade.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, few very small micro-fine scratches; dial with outer chapter hl at 1, small area of abrasion tight along perimeter at 6:30; excellent hands; case shows hardly any wear, dings to band at 6, superb crisp engine turning and engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal with some glue excess at its seat.
